Tony ran a dyno tuning facility in Brisbane for several years. Running race engines on a Dyno every day tends to teach you what works and what doesn’t.
Tony chose the new ECI Experimental aircraft cylinders because of their innovative advantages. “These new ECI cylinders offer a couple of key advantages. The Nickel and Carbide bores are amazing enough by themselves but the weight savings and high flow valve seats are exciting improvements for any pilot who values performance.” The steel cylinder fins are tapered down towards the base of the cylinder giving a weight reduction of 5 or 6 pounds on the Rebel. This seems like an obvious improvement over standard—the base of the cylinder wont be as hot as the top of the cylinder and cylinder head. The weight saving is especially valuable when pulling up to 10 G. It’s the equivalent saving of 50 to 60 pounds!
The high flow venturi valve seats increase air flow and therefore increase horse power, always a good thing! For display use it’s important to get the most power we can for the Rebel 300. We have the confidence in ECi cylinders to run a significantly higher compression ratio which helps give the Rebel its great performance.
Take a look at the ECI web site, you’ll see a lot more than fancy cylinders with many engine parts for both the Experimental and Certified markets!

Although chromium plating was considered state of the art 60 years ago, ECi has over the intervening years moved on to new plating technology as well as other innovative and high quality repair processes for all major components of a certificated aircraft piston engine.
